Despite a week in which JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon claimed he was smarter than President Donald Trump and could beat him in an election – something the banker later walked back – Dimon gave the president "pretty good" grades on the economy in the A-minus or B-plus range.

"When President Trump was elected, confidence skyrocketed, consumers, small business, large corporate and because pro-business, pro-competitive taxes, pro some regulatory reform, and that has helped the economy," Dimon told ABC's "This Week".

"So, it's impossible for me to tease out how much, but it has helped the economy."

Dimon did admit the Obama administration helped "stop the economy from getting much worse," but it also did things to slow U.S. economic growth, something President Trump deserves "some credit" for reversing.

"Some of those [things] are being reversed [under Trump]," Dimon said Sunday. "Yeah, he should take some credit for that."

Dimon's off-the-cuff comments on beating the president in an election were walked back to ABC, but drew a President Trump response on Twitter earlier this week.

"The problem with banker Jamie Dimon running for president is that he doesn't have the aptitude or 'smarts' & is a poor public speaker & nervous mess – otherwise he is wonderful," Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

"I've made a lot of bankers, and others, look much smarter than they are with my great economic policy!"
