The 60 Plus Association was founded in 1992 with a goal of helping seniors with solutions rooted in "free markets, less government, and less taxes." The organization views itself as a conservative alternative to AARP, formerly the American Association of Retired Persons.
In more than two decades, 60 Plus has advocated for a privatized version of Social Security, an end to the federal estate tax, and stronger rights for gun owners. Until June 2015, the group was led by Chairman James L. Martin, 77, a former U.S. Marine who has led multiple conservative advocacy groups.

60 Plus President Amy Noone Frederick arrived in 2010. She's a former Washington lobbyist and political consultant.
The well-known national spokesperson of 60 Plus is singer Pat Boone, who once wrote that something he calls
"liberalism" is like a virus. Martin and Boone have also appeared at tea party rallies.
In addition to seniors' rights, the organization has lobbied for other conservative ideals, such as opposing federal energy standards and fighting against tax increases as well as Obamacare.
