U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told senators Thursday that Americans are better off than before the COVID-19 pandemic despite higher prices because wages are rising as inflation subsides.

Pressed at a Senate Banking Committee hearing on the higher level of prices for many goods purchased by Americans after recent high inflation, Yellen said: "We don't have to get the prices down. Wages are going up."
