Elon Musk’s $44 billion cash offer to purchase Twitter isn't sitting well with everyone. Promising to overhaul the platform and protect free speech, Musk’s takeover was celebrated by conservatives, including Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, with the latter tweeting, “Free speech is making a comeback.”
But a sizable number of CNN and MSNBC viewers, 16.2% and 28.4%, respectively, said they will leave Twitter due to Musk’s pending imprint on the social media platform, a poll by online gambling site time2play found.
Asked if they would quit Twitter if Donald Trump’s Twitter ban was lifted and the former president returned to Tweeting, 42.2% of MSNBC and 27.7% of CNN viewers they would go.
British actress Jameela Jamil is one prominent figure who has promised to leave after Musk takes over the global platform. Her announcement was followed by progressive activist Shaun King, who briefly deleted his Twitter account before reactivating it, in a possible sign running Twitter as a public town square may not be so easy for the visionary billionaire.
