Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders accidentally called a man a Muslim during an MSNBC town hall, but he was quick to correct him, Politico reports.

At the event in event in Columbus, Ohio, Spandan Shah talked about violence against religious and ethnic minorities, calling it "very scary, especially for someone that looks like me."

"What is going to be your approach in uniting the country? And in particular, how do you address those people who relish in [Republican presidential front-runner Donald] Trump's divisive rhetoric?" Shah asked.

"For a start, we understand that, unlike Trump, what America's strength has been — and it's an extraordinary strength, is bringing our people together," Sanders responded. "I'm Jewish. You're Muslim…."

"I'm Hindu," Shah cut in.

"Hindu. There you go, all right," Sanders said "But that's what America is. And we've got Muslims here. And we got Latinos here. What an extraordinary opportunity."
