Bill O'Reilly: 'I Trust Iran More Than I Trust the American Press'

Fox News pundit Bill O'Reilly says he can do without news analysis of the U.S.'s Iran nuclear deal — he'd rather watch a debate play out in Congress for himself.

"The O'Reilly Factor" host told Fox News' senior political analyst Brit Hume on Monday that his trust of the media had all but eroded as details of a possible future nuclear accord are revealed, Mediaite reported.

"I don't trust the press," O'Reilly said. "I think I trust Iran more than I trust the American press. I don't want the American press interpreting this for me."

He added: "I want to see it in the committee hearings, on television. I want to see the debate … " as Congress weighs in such an agreement after imposing years of crippling sanctions against Iran.

O'Reilly also noted his distrust in President Barack Obama in the Iran negotiations, Real Clear Politics reported of the TV host's memo on Iran and foreign policy.

"American foreign policy is a mess as Mr. Obama has made major mistakes in the Middle East, has no solution for Putin, and generally seems confused by evil in the world. So in a vital situation — stopping Iran from developing nuclear weapons — the president finds himself with little credibility," O'Reilly said.

"Therefore when he says the deal is good, many Americans, perhaps most, simply don't believe him."

A "robust" debate on the issue with Iran before Congress is appropriate, O'Reilly added, noting a bill that would require House and Senate approval for any future Iran treaty.

"Simply put, millions of Americans do not trust President Obama to protect us from the deranged mullahs who have committed atrocities for decades.

"Therefore, Congress must, must provide oversight and reassurance for the American people," O'Reilly said. "That's the way our system is supposed to work."
