An 8-year-old child is one of three victims killed during the Boston Marathon bombings Monday afternoon, a law enforcement officer told NBC News.

The Boston Globe subsequently confirmed that the child was a boy.

Meanwhile, CNN reported that at least 110 people were being treated for injuries, with 22 victims in serious or critical condition. At least eight of those hospitalized were children, according to the network.

“Each scene resulted in multiple casualties. At this point in time, the victims have been removed from the scene,” said Ed Davis, Boston police commissioner, reports WCVB TV of Boston.

The two bombings were less than 30 seconds apart and went off about a half hour after the first marathon runners crossed the finish line.

Google has posted a Person Finder online where family and friends can search for loved ones who may have been injured. The tool was useful during the Haiti earthquake in 2010. The American Red Cross has put up a similar online tool.
