Several Fox News personalities took to Twitter Thursday to react to the resignation of chief Roger Ailes amid sexual harassment allegations, with senior political analyst Brit Hume calling the move "heartbreaking."

Hume, 73, joined Fox News in 1996. Here are his tweets:

Geraldo Rivera, another Fox News commentator, tweeted:

Ailes, 76, will remain as a consultant to the cable network through 2018, 21st Century Fox said.

His resignation took effect immediately.

Rupert Murdoch, 85, executive chairman of News Corporation, took over as chairman and acting CEO of the Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network, the company said.

Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, 50, filed a lawsuit July 6 accusing Ailes of sexual harassment and discrimination.

Ten other women have come forth alleging similar harassment — and anchor Megyn Kelly told 21st Century Fox investigators that Ailes harassed her when she was a reporter at the network 10 years ago.

Ailes, who founded Fox News Channel in 1996, has denied harassing both Carlson and Kelly.
