Legendary "Watergate" journalist Carl Bernstein says nobody at CNN is looking forward to the exit of embattled CEO Roger Ailes, who faces multiple accusations of sexual harassment.

Bernstein, who works as a commentator at CNN, told The Wrap's Sharon Waxman:

"His influence is enormous. He single-handedly, using sleight of hand and the phrase 'fair and balanced' — which it isn't — in terms of the culture wars [created] as important an instrument as has existed in setting the agenda for the country."

But Bernstein believes reports the Murdoch family is pushing Ailes out after he was slapped with a lawsuit by former Fox personality Gretchen Carlson, followed by allegations from other women, aren't being cheered by his CNN colleagues.

"I don't think anybody's salivating. I don't believe that at all," Bernstein told Waxman.

He also called Ailes, "a nefarious genius. Probably the most influential non-office holding political figure of the last 20 years in America."
