Amending the Constitution to eliminate birthright citizenship is "not going to happen," GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina said Wednesday, and by pushing for such a thing, "Donald Trump is acting a lot like the politician" he scorns.
"Let's hold up a bright sunny object and end birthright citizenship; it's not going to happen," the former Hewlett-Packard CEO told
MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program. "Whether people are for it or not, it's not going to happen."
Fiorina said the topic is "a distraction," and instead, she plans to "expend all of my political capital and political energy on doing the one thing we haven't done for 25 years — let's secure the border. Let's fix the legal immigration system which is such a huge part of the reason we have so many illegal immigrants."

"Talk, talk, talk, talk, it's all anybody's been doing for 25 years," she said. "We need to buckle down and get this stuff done. It's not rocket science."
And when it comes to Trump's growing popularity, Fiorina said she believes that's because "people want truth-telling in politics," as she herself was challenged by the media after saying Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton had lied about Benghazi and her emails.
"I think Donald Trump's a wake-up call to a lot of folks, the professional-political establishment for one and the media for another," said Fiorina."I think what presidential campaigns do is reveal character over time and under pressure. I think the character will be revealed of all the candidates over time and under pressure."
