New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who last month endorsed Republican Donald Trump for president, has reportedly been working with the real estate mogul behind the scenes to help with, among other things, debate prep.

According to a NJ.com report
, Christie — who dropped out of the race for president on Feb. 10 — coached Trump before the last Republican debate on March 10. A source told the website Christie spent time during a vacation to celebrate his 30th wedding anniversary to work with Trump at the businessman's Palm Beach, Fla. resort.

That debate, held in Miami, ended up being the most civil of all the Republican debates during this election season. The candidates — Trump, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich — mostly kept the discussion to politics and policy, rather than hurling insults and accusations at each other.

Rubio suspended his campaign last week after he failed to win the primary in his home state. Trump has a strong lead in the polls and in the delegate count, but his nomination is not yet secure.

Christie has stayed quiet about his role helping Trump. But one expert told NJ.com his assistance to the campaign could be a way for him to earn a spot in Trump's cabinet should he win the presidency.

In November, Trump told NBC News Christie could end up being his running mate if he succeeds in earning the GOP nomination.
