New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was asked again Monday whether Donald Trump's claims about
thousands of Muslims celebrating the 9/11 attacks in New Jersey was true.
"It didn't happen," Christie told ABC News in a video posted on Twitter.
Christie said last week he has no memory of seeing the celebrations as Trump insists actually happened. But that response was seen as weak by some, so his most recent response was more to the point.
"I said I didn’t remember it, that was the way I put it that day," he said. "That wasn’t me trying to hedge anything, it was me telling the truth. I don’t remember it happening, and if it had happened, I’m pretty sure I'd remember it."
Multiple media organizations say Trump's claim is not true, and that he likely is conflating a story in The Washington Post that said a few Muslims were investigated for holding celebratory parties and that the actual video of people in the Middle East celebrating was of Palestinians specifically.
"If you would like me to say it another, I'd be happy to say it another way: It didn’t happen," Christie told ABC. "The fact is people can say anything, but the facts are the facts and that did not happen in New Jersey that day, and it didn’t happen since."
