The media was not immune to teargas as police tried to disperse protestors Monday night in Ferguson, Missouri.
CNN reported that some people in the crowd were throwing bricks and bottles at police. Others tried to get them to stop, to no avail.
At that point, a volley of teargas was fired toward the crowd. CNN's Chris Cuomo reported that some people in the crowd were throwing canisters back.
As Don Lemon began reporting from a different location, he started to cough and hack. He could be seen putting on a gas mask, but it was too late.
"People have been overcome with teargas, and we are as well," Lemon said through his coughs.
He eventually had to call on another reporter to take over. When they went back to Lemon two minutes later, he was still sniffling and didn't respond, saying he needed an earpiece.
On Fox News Channel, reporter Mike Tobin was undergoing the same thing. Tobin took it somewhat in stride. He was seen coughing heavily during protests in August.
"I've had worse teargas along the way," Tobin said. "It's definitely unpleasant."
Later, a Fox News camera was shattered by protesters, and reporter Steve Harrigan had to resort to using an iPhone to take video. Harrigan said two men smashed his cameraman's equipment because they were angry about his filming looters.
Protesters took to the streets after it was announced that a grand jury did not indict police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed black man Michael Brown, 18.
