Ted Cruz's victory in the Wisconsin Republican primary Tuesday marked "the beginning of the end" for rival Donald Trump, the Club for Growth declared.
The victory "marks a major pivot in the GOP race away from Donald Trump and toward Ted Cruz," said David McIntosh, president of the organization's super PAC. "Not long ago, Wisconsin was Donald Trump's to lose.
"He had a big lead in Wisconsin, but, with the help of a $1 million Club for Growth ad buy, an excellent campaign by Ted Cruz, and Gov. Scott Walker's strong endorsement, Trump lost.
"The door is now closing on Trump's chance to get to 1,237," McIntosh declared.
He said that in the April 19 New York primary "anything less than a 50 percent finish … will be a loss."
The super PAC will then turn its attention to such states as Maryland, which holds its primary on April 26, and Indiana, on May 3 — in races where the group "can continue its efforts to stop Trump," McIntosh said.
