More than six out of 10 voters who watched say Hillary Clinton won Monday night's first general election presidential debate, according to a CNN/ORC poll.
The results:
- Clinton won the debate: 62 percent;
- Trump won the debate: 27 percent;
- Both/Neither: 10 percent.
Of the 521 registered voters CNN polled, most gave Clinton the edge in nearly every category, except for the candidate who spent more time attacking their opponent; Trump won that one 56 percent to 33 percent.
A roundup of the results on topics, according to the poll:
- Better understanding of the issues: Clinton, 68 percent; Trump, 27 percent;
- Economy: Clinton, 51 percent; Trump, 47 percent;
- Foreign policy: Clinton, 62 percent; Trump, 35 percent;
- Terrorism: Clinton, 54 percent; Trump, 43 percent;
- Stronger leader: Clinton, 56 percent; Trump, 39 percent;
- More sincere: Clinton, 53 percent; Trump, 40 percent.
According to CNN, 33 percent of the viewers identified as independents, and 54 percent of them (33 percent for Trump) said Clinton won the debate.
The CNN/ORC post-debate poll includes interviews with 521 registered voters who watched the Sept. 26 debate. Results among debate-watchers have a margin of sampling error of +/- 4.5 percentage points.
