The latest NBC News/Marist Poll has Republican David Purdue leading Democrat Michelle Nunn by 4 percentage points.

The race has been neck-and-neck for the seat of outgoing Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss, and the latest numbers show Purdue at 48 percent to Nunn's 44 percent. That represents Purdue's best showing among recent polls.

Georgia election law requires the winner to garner more than 50 percent of the vote. Libertarian Amanda Swafford pulls in 3 percent in the NBC/Marist Poll. If neither candidate has a majority on Tuesday, a runoff will be held December 6.

The poll surveyed 603 likely voters October 27-30. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
