MSNBC will air "an original documentary, Citizen Trump with Chris Matthews" on Tuesday night, according to a news release from NBCUniversal, the cable network's parent company.
The show "takes a look back at Donald Trump’s career and path to politics, chronicling the events that have led to his Presidential run," the company said. It will also examine the larger presidential race.
After the Republican front-runner hosted Saturday Night Live in November on NBC, some candidates requested their own free airtime under the Federal Communications Commission's "equal opportunity" rules for TV broadcasters. Those don't apply to cable networks like MSNBC.
* The documentary will be the "first in a series of candidate profiles," said the announcement from MSNBC, which has been moving to alter, though not completely discard, its left-of- center commentary.
* A spokeswoman for Donald Trump did not immediately return request for comment.
* Trump's November appearance on SNL gave the showits highest ratings in years.
