Donald Trump vows government's healthcare mandate must include assurance that no one will be left to "die sitting in the middle of the street."
Responding to a question about whether his views of healthcare coverage are close to those of Sen. Bernie Sanders, who advocates a single payer system, the real estate billionaire declared: "I'm closer to common sense."
"We're going to repeal Obamacare," Trump said. "The insurance companies are getting rich on Obamacare. We're going to end that… We're going to have a system where people compete… health care saving plans."
"We're going to take care of the people on the street dying," he added, scolding that "no city" should abandon those who cannot afford health care.
"You're not going to let people die sitting in the middle of the street," he said.
In previous comments Trump has said he backed a single-payer, universal healthcare system paid for by the government. But he insisted in an
ABC News interview last month that the government should provide health coverage for everyone but that it won't be a single-payer system.
