Donald Trump suggested after Thursday's GOP debate he has been audited by the IRS so many times because he's a Christian.
"One problem I have maybe because of religion. Maybe because of something else," Trump told CNN's Chris Cuomo when interviewed afterward.
"What do you mean religion?" Cuomo asked.
"Maybe because of the fact that I'm a strong Christian, and I feel strongly about it, and maybe there's a bias." Trump said.
Trump noted that others have said they have been audited for religious purposes, and neurosurgeon Ben Carson even noted during the debate he had been audited after speaking out against President Barack Obama at the National Prayer Breakfast in 2013.
The audits came up because Trump said during the debate he isn't releasing his past income tax returns because he is under audit by the IRS.
When asked by Cuomo why he can't just release the years for which he wasn't audited, Trump said they all tie together.
"The ones from previous relate to the ones later, and it doesn't make sense unless they're all released at one time," he said.
