Donald Trump is meeting mega-donor Sheldon Adelson before Tuesday night's Las Vegas debate, but it's just to chat, not to ask for money, the GOP presidential front-runner says.
The Washington Post reports Trump will meet with Adelson, owner of The Venetian hotel and casino where Tuesday's debate will take place.
Adelson spokesman Andy Abboud confirmed Trump would be meeting with Adelson and his wife, Miriam, but Trump told the newspaper it's just a social call with his longtime friend since Trump is funding his own campaign and has called his opponents "puppets" of donors such as Adelson.
Trump admitted he would like to get Adelson's endorsement, but said he doesn't expect it, as Adelson already has expressed support for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
"What I told Sheldon through his people is that I’d love their support. It’s unnecessary, but I’d like his support. I don’t want his money," Trump said.
