In light of the attack on two military targets
in Chattanooga on Thursday that left four Marines dead, GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump said power must be given back to those who protect us.
Appearing Thursday on Fox News Channel's
"The O'Reilly Factor," Trump said the rule forbidding most military personnel from carrying weapons on base must be reversed.
"They are just sitting there as targets. It's absolutely disgraceful," Trump said.
The four were killed at a Navy and Marine reserve center by Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez minutes after he had fired shots into a nearby military recruiting center.
Trump also faulted President Barack Obama for failing to use the words "Islamic terrorism."
"If we're going to fight elements that are causing tremendous problems, at least we have to start being not so politically correct," Trump said. "It's going to get worse in our country. We better start fighting tougher than we are fighting right now."
Asked why he believes terrorism is likely to increase inside America's borders, Trump said it's because terrorist groups don't respect the country and don't respect law enforcement.
"We are taking the power away from our police. We are taking the power away from the people who are supposed to be protecting us," he said. "It's getting worse and worse all the time. Whether it's Islamic or anything else, it's getting worse. … You look at what's happening in Detroit. You look at what's happening in Baltimore or Chicago. It's getting worse all the time."
