Political analyst and pollster Doug Schoen characterized President Barack Obama's State of the Union address as largely "a rehash of what we've heard before: 'thank you very much, goodnight.'"
"It provided nothing that will demonstrate leadership to the American people," he told Newsmax in an exclusive interview late Tuesday. "He made a real effort to connect with people by using individual examples, but I'm not sure if he achieved much of anything."
As for Obama's declaration that 2014 is a year of action and his vow to bypass Congress and take action on his own to bolster the nation's middle class, Schoen said: "It's a year of action, but it's modest actions. It's more of an effort to try to demonstrate leadership in the face of a divided Congress than it is anything else."
