Democratic Rep. Chaka Fattah of Pennsylvania on Sunday likened the Trayvon Martin case to the Casey Anthony case: Both involve dead children, with no one being held accountable.
"If you take race out of this, what you have is a young person who died who wanted to buy some candy, was innocent, was not involved in any criminal activity, and a person who officials had asked not to follow him took a gun and killed him, and now that person will get his gun back," Fattah, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, said on CNN’s "State of the Union."
"George Zimmerman will get that gun back." Fattah said.
A Florida jury late Saturday declared Zimmerman innocent in the killing.
Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva, a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, said on CNN that the next step will be to request the Justice Department “to fully, fully pursue a civil-rights violation.”
“It’s not the last word,” Grijalva said.
