The sexual assault allegations leveled against Donald Trump are "gossip," former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday.

"I have no reaction to 30-year-old gossip when I have Hillary Clinton promising to open the American borders to 600 million people," Gingrich told CNN.

"I don't think it's relevant to the choice of the next president, as compared to Hillary Clinton and her anti-Catholic staff that we're learning about through WikiLeaks."

A New York Times story published online Wednesday had claims from two women who said Trump sexually assaulted them. In another case, a People magazine reporter wrote that Trump assaulted her.

Trump denied the claims and has threatened to file lawsuits.

The Times said Thursday it stands by its reporting.
