Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton leads Republican nominee Donald Trump by 16 percentage points in Virginia, according to a new poll from Roanoke College.
- Clinton: 48 percent
- Trump: 32 percent
- Gary Johnson: 8 percent
- Jill Stein: 3 percent
When the two third-party candidates are excluded, Clinton's advantage jumps to 19 points over Trump. Her favorability ratings have improved as well since the last Roanoke poll.
- Clinton's current favorable: 39 percent
- Current unfavorable: 45 percent
- May favorable: 35 percent
- May unfavorable: 50 percent
Trump, on the other hand, is less liked than he was before:
- Trump's current favorable: 23 percent
- Current unfavorable: 63 percent
- May favorable: 23 percent
- May unfavorable: 56 percent
The Clinton campaign has received a number of promising results in polls, to the point that, according to Politico, it will not be making more ad buys in Virginia, instead focusing on states where polls show a closer race. Although a Clinton official told Politico that the campaign wasn't getting too relaxed.
"With ads still on the air and organizers and volunteers in every corner of the commonwealth, the campaign remains committed to fighting hard until Election Day to win every last vote in battleground Virginia," the official said.
Trump made an appearance at a rally in Fredericksburg last week, where he detailed a "reform agenda," USA Today reports.
"Over the next 80 days, we are going to work very, very hard," Trump said, assuring voters that "we're going to build a wall, don't worry," referring to his plan to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Roanoke College polled 803 likely voters in Virginia by phone from Aug. 7-17, with a margin of error of 3.5 percent.
