Howard Stern says he quizzed Donald Trump about women and sex on his radio show over the years because he knew his audience would love it.

But the veteran shock jock won't mine his old tapes for controversial remarks made by the future Republican presidential candidate because he believes it would be a "betrayal" on his part.

"I knew I had a guy who loved to talk about sex," Stern said Monday on SiriusXM satellite radio, according to Billboard.

"I had a guy who loved to evaluate women on a scale of 1-10. These are avenues I went down because I knew it would entertain the audience."

In recent weeks, sexually-charged comments Trump made over the years as a frequent guest on Stern's talk show have emerged in various media reports.

On the show Trump bragged about his sex life, talked about inviting his first wife and mistress to go skiing in Aspen at the same time and "deeply troubled women" are "always the best in bed," Billboard reports.

But the leaked remarks are not coming from Stern himself.

"Why don't I play all the tapes? I have to tell you why: I feel Donald Trump did the show in an effort to be entertaining and have fun with us," Stern said.

"And I feel like it would be a betrayal to any of our guests if I sat there and played them now where people are attacking him."

Trump has been under fire for his sex talk following the release of a 2005 video in which he tells TV's Billy Bush of forcibly kissing women, grabbing them by their private parts and being able to get away with it because he's a celebrity.
