FBI Director James Comey is a "mad bomber" who through his actions may have "improperly and groundlessly" imperiled next week's election, the New York Daily News said in an editorial.
The Daily News' editorial comes two days after Comey informed Congress he was reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server after the discovery of hundreds of thousands of emails during the probe into Anthony Weiner's sexting with a 15-year-old girl.
Weiner is married to, albeit separated from Huma Abedin, Clinton's top aide. Comey said the FBI will investigate the communications to and from Clinton's server, looking for evidence of classified information being exposed.
The Daily News broke down Comey's indiscretions:
- Betraying the country and the FBI;
- Announcing the "discovery of material that may or may not be evidence;"
- Having little knowledge of what new emails contain; they could all be duplicates;
- Informing Congress before he had permission from a judge to search the emails.
"Fully aware of how little he knows and of how much damage he was doing, the FBI director unconscionably personified a weapon of national mass destruction," the Daily News wrote.
