Former House Speaker John Boehner endorsed Ohio Gov. John Kasich Saturday for president, just 3 days before a crucial primary in the Buckeye State that likely will determine Kasich's political future.
Boehner told a crowded ballroom in an Ohio township near his home that he had already voted for Kasich.
"He's my friend," said Boehner, r
eported the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Ohio holds its winner-take-all primary on Tuesday. Kasich has said that he will drop out if he doesn't win his home state, and is still polling behind front-runner Donald
Trump, although the margin has narrowed. The latest Real Clear Politics average puts Trump ahead by just 2.5 percentage points.
