Joni Ernst's Rebuttal to Obama Found Few Fans on Twitter

While milder headlines characterized freshman Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa as "folksy" and "affable" for her delivery of the GOP response to Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, social media like Twitter lit up with vitriolic criticisms on everything from her background to her looks.

Some contained profanity. Others were simply harsh.

One Twitter user, Sean Balkwill, wrote:

Others described Ernst as a "demonic doll," or "dumb"  and those were mild.

Even MSNBC host Ronan Farrow hit below the belt, saying Ernst’s delivery resembled an in-flight safety video.

Yahoo News offered a more polite review, noting that "from the outset of her remarks, Ernst’s message and tone conveyed moderation and affability, with a polite but firm challenge to the president to work with Republicans on issues such as tax reform, trade and job creation."
