A man the Trump campaign said grabbed a protester at a recent rally was actually a member of Trump's personal security detail, though a campaign statement did not originally identify him as such,
Politico reports.
The campaign issued a statement Saturday after video showed the man along with Trump campaign manager
Corey Lewandowski worked to remove the man from a rally in Tucson.
Lewandowski has come under fire over allegations he grabbed former
Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields so hard he left bruises on her arm.
Lewandowski can be seen in video beside the protester, but the campaign's statement on Saturday night noted the protester "was pulled from behind by the man to Lewandowski's left. The video clearly shows the protestor reacting to the man who pulled him, not to Mr. Lewandowski. The man to Corey’s left who pulls the protester back and many other people in the scene are reacting to the protestor grabbing the woman in the green shirt."
Mediate posted a screengrab of the video and noted that the man is the same Trump security officer seen pulling a protester in Chicago from behind a podium Trump had been scheduled to speak from.
When Politico contacted the Trump campaign, spokeswoman Hope Hicks did not deny the man worked Trump.
"Although we did not identify this individual, we did not make any suggestion as to his affiliation or lack thereof," Hicks said.
