Rubio: Irma on 'Worst Route Possible'

Hurricane Irma's expected path along Florida's west coast is "the worst route" possible, Sen. Marco Rubio said Sunday.

In remarks for CBS News "Face The Nation," the Florida Republican warned of devastating destruction as the storm hits the Florida Keys.

"Hitting the west coast of Florida is the worst route this thing could have taken," he said.

"The problem we have is there's nowhere to move, the whole state's being impacted by this."

He added that residents who evacuated to areas that are now in the crosshairs of Irma are agonizing over whether they should return to ride out the storm.

The storm's northern eye wall early Sunday morning hit the Lower Keys and is bringing winds of 130 mph.

"It doesn't look very good for [the Florida Keys] no matter what they did to prepare," Rubio said.
