Fox News Channel host Megyn Kelly opened "The Kelly File" Monday with her response to the attacks she faced over the weekend from GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump.

"I just got back from a weekend at the beach with my husband and my three kids. Did anything happen in the news while I was gone? Did I miss anything?" Kelly joked.

Trump has gone after Kelly all weekend, beginning with a Friday interview with CNN's Don Lemon.

Trump was critical of Kelly, who, as one of the moderators of the Fox News Channel debate on Thursday, asked him whether he has the temperament to be president in light of several tweets he has made about women, including about their appearance.

Trump told CNN that Kelly was angry at him when he interrupted with a quip that he had only called entertainer Rosie O'Donnell ugly names after she started a battle with him.

"You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever," Trump said of Kelly.

Critics said Trump was implying that Kelly was hormonal, but Trump said that was a misinterpretation. He said he meant that blood was coming out of her nose and ears as well. It is a figure of speech meaning someone is angry, he said.

Kelly on Monday referred to the "dustup," without getting into specifics.

"Mr. Trump was upset with a question I asked him at the debate last week about his electability, and specifically comments he has made in the past about women," she said.

"Apparently, Mr. Trump thought the question I asked was unfair and felt I was attacking him. I felt he was asked a tough but fair question. We agreed to disagree."

She noted that Trump "attacked me personally," and added, "I've decided not to respond."

"Mr. Trump is an interesting man who has captured the attention of the electorate. That's why he is leading in the polls," she continued. "Trump, who is the front-runner, will not apologize, and I certainly will not apologize for doing good journalism."

She said she will continue doing her job "without fear or favor" and expects that Trump "will continue with what has been a successful campaign thus far."

"This is a tough business and it is time to move forward," Kelly said, and then continued with her newscast.
