Michael Brown and other black victims of police shootings are "crying out from the grave" to change the system, says Benjamin Crump, attorney for Brown's family.
"Michael Brown and the unknown Michael Browns are crying out from the grave, saying we have to change this system that let's people kill them . . . without consequence," Crump told CNN on Monday night as images of protesters in Ferguson, Missouri, were shown on the screen.
Crump said Brown's family doesn't approve of those in the crowd who were stirring up trouble.
"They wish that people will not be violent, people will be constructive, people will be peaceful, as they've asked all along. They want change," Crump said.
Brown, 18, was shot to death by white police officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9. The young black man was unarmed, but a grand jury found no evidence to indict Wilson. Protests began after the announcement was made Monday night.
Brown's parents released a statement after the announcement:
"We are profoundly disappointed that the killer of our child will not face the consequences of his actions. While we understand that many others share our pain, we ask that you channel your frustration in ways that will make a positive change. We need to work together to fix the system that allowed this to happen," the statement read.
"Join with us in our campaign to ensure that every police officer working the streets in this country wears a body camera. We respectfully ask that you please keep your protests peaceful. Answering violence with violence is not the appropriate reaction," the family said.
