The traditional handshaking between candidates' families at presidential debates has been shelved for the final meeting between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on Wednesday night, The New York Times reports.
The reason: At the last debate, Trump's campaign planned to usher three women who'd accused Bill Clinton of sex assault into the family seating area and force the former president to shake their hands, Clinton campaign sources tell the newspaper.
With another potential embarrassment possible at the third debate, the Clinton side nipped the issue in the bud and gained approval of a different system for candidates' spouses and families to make their entrances.
The Times said candidates' spouses will now "enter the hall closer to their seats, rather than crossing the room, and each other's paths. That would avoid any potential for confrontations, given Mr. Trump's penchant for dramatic stunts."
