Obama: I've Never Owned a Gun

President Barack Obama admitted Thursday he has never owned a gun, but said that has not dampened his support for the Second Amendment.

Obama was asked by host Anderson Cooper at CNN's town hall program "Guns in America" if he had ever felt a desire to own a gun before becoming president.

"You know, I grew up mostly in Hawaii, and other than hunting for wild pigs, which they do once in awhile, you know, there's not the popularity of hunting and sportsmanship with guns as much as there are in other parts of the country," Obama said.

Obama on Tuesday announced plans for executive actions to require more background checks and other restrictions on obtaining weapons. Cooper noted that many people watching don't believe Obama when he says he isn't coming after their guns since he has never been a gun owner himself.

"Anderson, it's useful to keep in mind I've been president for over seven years and gun sales don't seem to have suffered during that time," he said. "If anything, you've helped," Cooper replied. "I've been very good for gun manufacturers," Obama agreed.

In fact, gun sales have spiked after every mass shooting during Obama's seven years in office.

Many believe it's fear Obama and the Democratic Party will make it harder to buy guns in response.
