Christians must mobilize now if they are to have any hope in generating the momentum to turn President Barack Obama out of office in 2012, says legendary singer and conservative activist Pat Boone.
“We are determined, we Christians and conservatives — not all Christians — to relieve him of his command,” Boone says, referring to the president.
Defeating the Obama administration would allow voters to elect “people who understand the Constitution and the republic, and who understand the economy, and who understand that lowering taxes and not continuing to spend is the way to reduce government and to create a flourishing economy,” Boone says in the interview, recorded during the interview at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington last weekend.
“But to do it,” he adds, “we need to be informed, we need to be knowledgeable and we need to get off our couch and register and vote.”
As to his own preferences for Republican presidential candidates in 2012, Boone says he likes former Govs. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, as well as businessman Donald Trump. All have proven records in governing, strategizing, and running businesses, he says.
President Obama falls far short in those departments, Boone says.

“We have a man currently in office who’s never done any of those things, he’s learning on the job,” he explains. “And we need people that have already done these things before so for me, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and even Donald Trump would be great choices.”
Christians and conservatives must continue to be engaged, to build on the successes of the 2010 elections, as the 2012 elections approach, the frequent Newsmax contributor says. A committed group can make the difference when a good turnout is 40 or 50 percent of eligible voters, Boone says.
Boone was at CPAC to receive the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which he said left him “moved and surprised.”
“I’m moved because the stands and the positions I’ve taken over the years have been from my heart and from my own convictions and I have not expected other people particularly to notice,” says Boone, who was wearing his signature white buck shoes. “I don’t do it for that.”
Boone, who is national spokesman for the 60 Plus Association, the conservative alternative to AARP, also says in the Newsmax interview:
- He is not aware of any seniors who believe that Obamacare is a good thing. They fear that the program will siphon off funds from Medicare and Social Security.
- His old friend John Wayne, who died in 1979, would be fed up with the state of the nation. “I probably wouldn’t quote what I think he might say,” Boone added with a chuckle.
- Boone acknowledged that he was responsible for a portion of President Ronald Reagan’s evil empire speech in which he recounted the story of an entertainer who would rather have his daughters die than be part of a system of godless communism. Boone says the reference stemmed from an anti-communism rally he attended with Reagan and Wayne. In his speech, he addressed the “better-red-than-dead” phrase based on the argument that it would be better to be a communist than die in a nuclear holocaust. Boone says he told the audience that, although he prayed it would never happen, he would rather see “our daughters blown into heaven in an atomic blast than” be in the hell of a communist United States.
