Ohio Gov. John Kasich has muscled into a second-place tie with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the GOP presidential primary race in New Hampshire, a new poll shows.
The survey by
Boston's National Public Radio station WBUR, released Thursday,
shows both contenders just 11 points behind front-runner Donald Trump with less than three weeks before voting in the Granite State.
Here's the breakdown:
- Trump: 26 percent
- Kasich: 15 percent
- Cruz: 15 percent
- Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush: 10 percent
- Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: 7 percent
- Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul: 5 percent
- Retired pediatric surgeon Ben Carson: 5 percent
- Former business executive Carly Fiorina: 4 percent
- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: 4 percent
- Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: 1 percent
The survey also showed "undeclared" voters — independents — represent about 44 percent of New Hampshire's voters — more than either political party.
"And a lot of them, about a third, still haven't made up their mind," Steve Koczela, president of The MassINC Polling Group, which conducted the survey, tells
WBUR.
"That to me is the thing that could still cause the biggest change."
Those saying they'll vote Republican were at 38 percent; 29 percent will definitely vote Democrat.
Among the independents, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders had the highest favorable rating, at 59 percent, of all candidates in both parties. Kasich followed with a a 40 percent favorability rating.
Trump and Cruz were picked as the least favorable presidential candidates, the poll showed, with Trump at 65 percent, and Cruz at 62 percent.
