Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are in a dead heat in Iowa, a new poll by Simpson College and RABA Research reveals.

Here are the latest numbers released on Monday:

  • Trump: 40 percent;
  • Clinton: 39 percent;
  • Libertarian Gary Johnson: 10 percent;
  • Green Party's Jill Stein: 3 percent;
  • Undecided: 8 percent.

While Trump officially leads, with the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent, he and Clinton are virtually tied.

"This poll shows that both Trump and Clinton have a loyal, dug-in base of support showing little movement, even when Iowa voters are given an alternative candidate from which to choose," said Kedron Bardwell, chair of Simpson's political science department.

"The campaigns of both Trump and Clinton have even more reason to ratchet up their ground games to make sure the votes are there on Election Day."

The poll of 1,054 voters conducted from Sept. 6-8 also revealed that 88 percent plan to vote in this November's general election. Eight percent say they will "probably" vote. Four percent say it's 50-50 as to whether they'll go to the polls.
