Donald Trump leads Hillary Clinton by 1 point heading into Wednesday night's final debate, according to the first release of the IBD/TIPP tracking poll.
The results of likely voters:
- Trump: 41 percent;
- Clinton: 40 percent;
- Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson: 8 percent;
- Green Party candidate Jill Stein: 6 percent.
In a head-to-head matchup, Clinton leads Trump 44 percent to 41 percent, according to the poll.
"From the results, it looks as if Gary Johnson and Jill Stein are drawing more support away from Clinton than Trump," said Ragavan Mayur, president of TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence, which conducts the poll.
Further, the poll finds Trump outperforming Clinton with the following demos:
- Parents: Trump leads 46 percent to 32 percent;
- Married women: Trump leads 44 percent to 41 percent;
- Lower-class households: Trump leads 53 percent to 37 percent.
A total of 872 Americans age 18 or older participated in the nationwide survey. Of the 872 respondents, 825 were registered voters and 782 were likely voters.
The story is based on the subsample of likely voters. The margin of error for the likely voters sample is plus or minus 3.6 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.
