On the eve of early voting in Texas, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held a 3-point lead over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, according to a new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll released Thursday.
The results:
- Donald Trump, 45 percent;
- Hillary Clinton, 42 percent;
- Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson, 7 percent;
- Green Party candidate Jill Stein, 2 percent.
Breaking down the poll further, the results show that Trump and Clinton are tied among female voters.
When Trump voters were asked why they were voting for the real estate mogul, 47 percent said they actually want Trump to be president, while 53 percent said they are mostly just voting against Clinton.
When Clinton voters were asked why they were voting for the former secretary of state, 66 percent said they actually want Clinton to be president, while 34 percent said they mostly don't want Trump to win.
In terms of Trump's honesty and trustworthiness:
- 75 percent say he is;
- 12 percent say he is not;
- 13 percent are undecided.
When it comes to Clinton's honesty and trustworthiness:
- 67 percent say she is;
- 18 percent say she is not;
- 15 percent are undecided.
The University of Texas/Texas Tribune internet survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted from Oct. 14 to Oct. 23 and has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 2.83 percentage points.
