President Donald Trump will hold a small reception on Monday for members of the conservative media at the White House, Politico reported Sunday.

Media outlets attending will be One America News Network, The Daily Caller, Breitbart, as well as selected columnists and talk radio hosts.

"They were neglected the last eight years, and they're an important medium to communicate to a massively growing number of Americans who, frankly, have grown tired of mainstream media's coverage," White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said in an interview.

Spicer explained the reception was part of an overall attempt to open up the White House to a "more diverse set of media outlets." Not only has the Trump administration expanded which reporters are called on at press conferences and briefings, but the White House has also incorporated Skype seats for local and regional reporters and others who would not ordinarily be involved in the events.

"We've definitely done our fair share of meetings with mainstream reporters. Once in a while it's important to appreciate the folks who have really covered the president fairly and covered a lot of issues ignored by mainstream media," Spicer said.

Prior to Trump's address to the joint session of Congress in February, he had lunch with major network news anchors and dinner with regional TV news outlets. Former President Barack Obama also held special meetings with selected members of the news media during his presidency, the article said.
