Cyber Experts: Hillary Could Have Exposed Obama's Email to Hackers

President Barack Obama's email may have been exposed if hackers got into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private email server, cybersecurity experts tell Politico.

Though Clinton on Tuesday assured the public that "there were no security breaches" to her system, computer security analysts say she can't possibly make that assertion with any degree of certainty.

"It is impossible to know whether Clinton's email was penetrated by foreign actors, like Russia or China, both of which conduct cyberattacks daily on the United States," the National Journal reported, citing numerous cybersecurity experts.

The ACLU's principal technologist, Chris Soghoian, told Politico that there is no comparison to security Clinton may have had on a private server in her home and the State Department's.

"The State Department has its own full-time security team and the NSA helping out," Soghoian said. "Unless she was paying a team of people to keep her personal email secure, it's likely it was less secure."

Former cybersecurity officials familiar with the White House system told Politico that even if Clinton's emails were penetrated by hackers, it would still have been "virtually impossible" to hack the president's email, which is constantly monitored by a computer security team.

"He's protected by a really, really good setup," former National Security Agency technical director Richard "Dickie" George told the website. "No one in the country has better security than [Obama] has."

But according to the National Review, Clinton's email system used "obsolete and insecure" protocols and earned an overall F rating for security."

The system has reportedly been hacked at least once in recent memory. Romanian hacker "Guccifer" breached Clinton's account in 2013 when it got into the email of Clinton adviser Sidney Blumenthal, who was communicating with an account that was purportedly Clinton's and was registered on the clintonemail.com domain, according to The Washington Post.

The National Review writes that "because of Hillary Clinton's decision to use her own server and email system instead of the official State Department systems, she exposed the president's personal emails to her and his email address.

"If that likely scenario is the case, maybe this explains why President Obama, David Axelrod, congressional Democrats, and other liberals aren't rushing to Hillary Clinton's aid in this accelerating scandal. She's actually fouled things up on a scale so serious and consequential, not even they can excuse it or forgive it."
