Rand Paul: Hillary Disqualified From Serving in Higher Office

Sen. Rand Paul said Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's actions during the war in Libya should disqualify for her from the presidency.

Paul began by telling the conservative crowd at the annual gathering outside of Washington that "in the Middle East, one form of tyranny often replaces another. When secular despots are overthrown, chaos ensues and radical Islam grows stronger.

"Hillary's war in Libya is a perfect example," the Kentucky Republican said. "Hillary's war made us less safe. Libya is less stable, and radical jihadists run amok.

"Hillary's war in Libya allowed thousands of surface-to-air missiles to fall into the hands of radical Islamists," he said.

"As Hillary was declaring victory in Libya, Ambassador Stevens was pleading for more security.

"When I asked Secretary Clinton if she read Ambassador Stevens' cables, pleading for help. She answered curtly, 'No,' as if she had more important things to do," Paul said.

"I believe Hillary Clinton's abdication of responsibility, her refusal to provide an adequate defense to Benghazi, her dereliction of duty should forever preclude her from higher office," he concluded.

"It's time for Hillary Clinton to permanently resign."

However, the Kentucky senator and presidential hopeful said that "we must protect ourselves from jihadists without losing who we are in the process."

"We need a national defense to defend against all attacks . . . but we also need a foreign policy that encourages stability not chaos. In order to be 'successful abroad,' we cannot be 'inept at home,'" Paul said.

"I envision an America with a national defense unparalleled, undefeatable, and unencumbered by nation building," he added.

Paul was very critical of moves by intelligence agencies to collect the phone records of Americans.

"You do have a right to privacy. Your rights are who you are. Your rights are what you are. Your rights are in your DNA, and the government can, quite frankly, get over it," he said.

"To defend our country, we need to gather intelligence on the enemy, but when the intelligence director lies to Congress, how are we to trust them?" he asked.

"Are we to trust them to collect and own every American's phone records?" he asked.

"Your phone records are yours," he said. "The phone records of law-abiding citizens are none of their damn business."

Paul also disparaged Obamacare, the national debt, the proliferation of regulations, foreign aid and the failure of liberal policies in the inner city and poor communities, while touting cutting taxes, cutting spending, balancing the budget and term limits.
