Donald Trump is "truly pro-life" — and the Republican presidential front-runner "cares about and loves evangelical Christians," Dallas pastor Robert Jeffress said Friday.
"He believes in protecting the unborn," Jeffress, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, told supporters at a Trump rally in Fort Worth. "That's an issue we as Christians care about.
"Some of you who say, 'Well, I don't know if his pro-life conversion was real,' let me tell you something: Hillary Clinton doesn't claim any pro-life conversion.
"If you go for Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, there's no doubt you're going to have the most pro-abortion president in history," Jeffress said.
The pastor's comments came at the same rally as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's surprise endorsement of Trump after Thursday's Republican debate in Houston.
The governor dropped out of the 2016 race earlier this month.
Jeffress relayed an experience with former President Ronald Reagan in the early stages of his first White House campaign in the late 1970s.
"He met with a group of evangelical leaders — and he said, "'Although you can't endorse me, I want you to know, I endorse you,'" Jeffress said.
"I have met with Mr. Trump on several occasions. I can tell you from personal experience that if Donald Trump is elected president of the United States, we who are evangelical Christians are going to have a true friend in the White House.
"God bless Donald Trump."
