The tables would be turned for GOP presidential candidates who want a post-election delay in a Supreme Court nomination if the president was a Republican, Ben Carson says.

In an interview in South Carolina with WRNN 99.5 FM first reported by BuzzFeed, the retired pediatric surgeon was asked if fellow presidential contenders would still be against a 2016 SCOTUS nomination to succeed the late Justice Antonin Scalia if the GOP held the White House.

"No, they wouldn't," Carson replied.

"But then again, recognize that the two picks that [President Barack Obama] has selected are ideologues, so there's really no reason to believe that his next pick wouldn't be an ideologue also," Carson added.

The nation's high court has become a "political tool" — and it may be time to consider term limits for Supreme Court jurists, Carson says.

"When we enacted that program, the average age of death was 47," he said. "And now it's 80. You know, things have changed, so we need to change with them."
