Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump's speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference Monday was met with a somewhat neutral response, reports one media outlet.
Trump,
according to Time, spent much of his speech criticizing Iran and the Palestinian Authority. He also vowed to "dismantle" the deal struck with Iran over its nuclear program, although a short time later he said he would "restructure" the historic accord.
The leading Republican presidential candidate said during his speech that he supports America's "cultural brother" Israel.
Trump took some heat from critics, including Democrat presidential candidate
Hillary Clinton, earlier Monday when he said he would stay "neutral" regarding the long-running conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
After the speech, Trump's friend and former campaign advisor Roger Stone called the candidate "a radical Zionist."
"Donald Trump is a radical Zionist — who knew?"
Stone said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."
"He has always said that he is an unabashed supporter of Israel. He fleshed it out. This is the new Trump."
Trump made headlines earlier Monday by saying
he doesn't believe the United States "should be nation-building anymore." He also would like to see America
spend less money on the North American Treaty Organization.
"We are paying disproportionately. It's too much and frankly it's a different world than it was when we originally conceived of the idea," Trump said. "We have to reconsider. Keep NATO, but maybe we have to pay a lot less toward NATO itself," he said.
