Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump Saturday defended the Second Amendment and told supporters in Tennessee that he had his own concealed carry permit in New York.

"I have a license to carry in New York. Can you believe that?" the billionaire developer told a cheering crowd in Franklin, Mediaite reports. "Somebody attacks me, oh, they’re gonna be shocked."

He also praised the 1974 Charles Bronson film "Death Wish" — saying that "today you can't make that movie because it's not politically correct."

Trump also read his platform on how to protect the Second Amendment and address gun violence like Thursday's mass shootings at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore.

"This is about self-defense, plain and simple," he said.

His plan includes defending the rights of law-abiding gun owners, as well as strengthening the national FBI's background checks system and increasing mental-health services.

Trump also wants to allow military personnel to carry guns on bases.

"It's not the guns, it’s these sick people," he said, later adding: "They have background checks already in place. That was done in 1998, but people slip through — and our government is not doing a good job."

He also called for a "National Right to Carry," in which a concealed carry permit issued in one state would apply throughout the country.

"I'm a very big Second Amendment person," Trump said to cheers from the audience. "It's very, very important to me."
