If Hillary Clinton "is trying to act that she is somehow a champion for women, she doesn't have a leg to stand on," Republican strategist and Trump campaign surrogate Boris Epshteyn said on Saturday.

"Hillary Clinton spent the '90s bullying and smearing the women," Epshteyn told Ari Melber on MSNBC. "One of the women said the shame stuck to them like tar.

"So, this is her history."

Epshteyn was referring to the women who were linked to sex scandals involving former President Bill Clinton, including Monica Lewinsky and Gennifer Flowers.

Republican Donald Trump has said that he may bring up Bill Clinton's marital indiscretions in the next debate with the Democratic nominee, on Oct. 9 at Washington University in St. Louis.

"If Hillary Clinton is going to deny or the Clinton camp somehow wants to deny that she spent the '90s bullying and smearing these women, they can do that," Epshteyn told Melber. "But we all know that happened.

"She needs to own up to it — and not act as a champion for women in some ways."

He said Trump hit back this week after Clinton mentioned the Republican's attacks on former Miss Universe winner Alicia Machado during Monday's first debate at Hofstra University in New York.

"Hillary Clinton attempted to use women as a prop during the debate," Epshteyn said. "She failed. Mr. Trump responded.

"He won't be bullied. Like these women were bullied in the '90s.

"So, now, it's up to us and incumbent upon us to make the record clear."
