Donald Trump has triggered a new "fat-shaming" fury after remarking that an anonymous computer hacker could be "somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds."
Heavyset Americans immediately hopped on the statement, which came in the same month in which the Republican presidential candidate justified calling comedian Rosie O'Donnell an overweight "pig," and defended labeling former Miss Universe Alicia Machado "Miss Piggy" after she gained weight.
Kimberly Massengill, a self-described fat person, told The New York Times she was inundated by texts from friends after Trump's remark, asking, "Wouldn't it be great if fat people were the ones to keep Trump out of office?"
News columnists also took jabs at Trump.
"Trump (who is a fat slob himself) is fixated on weight, especially women's weight, but why on Earth would he pin the blame for the hacking of Democrat email accounts on a 400-pound hacker?" asked Robert Reyes, who writes for The Student Operated Press.
