President-elect Donald Trump said Saturday that Israel's "big loss" with the United Nations on Friday "will make it harder to negotiate peace" — but that "we will get it done anyway."
Trump said on Twitter:
The post came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the Jewish state would re-assess its ties to the global organization after the U.N. Security Council voted 14-0 to condemn settlement-building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The United States abstained from the vote, breaking with long-standing diplomatic policy and refusing to use its veto power as it has done many times before.
Trump had demanded Thursday that President Barack Obama veto the resolution — and he came under widespread attack for thrusting himself into the affairs of a sitting commander-in-chief.
